Timoga Cold Spring, Iligan City . The most visited resort in the City. Water anyone? Icy cold and clear spring water flowing freely in the direction of the swimming pool (different sizes). Since water flows freely meaning the water in the pool is always clean. There are other spring resorts in Iligan City . Aside from the pool, there are cottages and sheds for rent.

Jose Rizal is a known supporter for improvement/change in the Philippines during the Spanish colonial era. He was mistakenly suspected as the leader of the “Katipunan” in which the Spaniards thought to be against the law and rebellious. The Spanish military court found Dr. Jose Rizal guilty of rebellion and treason thus was executed by a firing squad in Bagumbayan ( Luneta Park ) on December 30, 1896.

Everyday scene as a vessel dock at ports. I first encountered this when we went to Cebu City via Cagayan de Oro. They call it Bajao people begging for passengers to toss coins into the water and part of the entertainment they will jump from their bangka/canoe, dive into the water to get the change. I pity those women who bring their infants with them. They just catch the coins by their makeshift open hamper.

We also visited the sunken cemetery in Camiguin. Due to the eruption of Mount Vulcan , the capital of Camiguin and its cemetery literally sunk under the sea. To spot the place they installed a huge cross made by solidified lava in 1982. We rode a boat just to get to the big cross. At first it was quite scary but you will get a hang of it. You can go up to the viewing deck of the cross by climbing the stairs which of course gives you a great view Camiguin. If you are brave enough you can have your diving at the site of the sunken cemetery and enjoy the coral covered tombstones.

That feels good. The waterfalls measured about 250 feet high. They have a rock picnic tables and seats and facilities are available for cooking. You can also buy souvenir items.

Gaston Park is just beside the San Augustin Cathedral. It was named after Segundo Gaston, first mayor of Cagayan de Oro. The local revolutionaries used this place as their training ground in preparation for the Phil-American War in 1900. The Augustinian Recollect Missionary built the San Augustin Cathedral in 1624. The said church was destroyed four times and finally was restructured in 1946. Inside the church are the priceless stained glasses.

A stone church was built in 1845 and became San Agustin Metropolitan Cathedral. But in 1945, the said church was ruined during the American liberation. The first Archbishop was James T.G. Hayes. Because of the determination of Archbishop Hayes the church was rebuilt. It is the home of the Archdiocese of Cagayan de Oro. If you are going to visit the Cathedral take time to notice its century old stained glass.
